your veterinarian diagnose a health issue with their liver.

Advanced SAM-e formula for dogs
Proven support for liver and cognitive functions while easing joint discomfort
SAM-e synthesis is a naturally occurring reaction within the livers and brains of dogs. While in the liver, it aids in the critical function of cleaning out the build-up of unwanted waste and may help repair cell damage. In the brain, SAM-e helps increase dopamine function, stimulates healthy cognitive function and works as an antioxidant.
Additionally, researchers have identified SAM-e as an effective anti-inflammatory that improves joint health. This means that pets that are already on maxxiSAMe, receive valuable joint support for minor everyday discomfort. However, if your dog has pre-existing joint problems and/or arthritis, they will still benefit from an additional joint supplement like maxxiflex+.
What is SAM-e?
SAM-e is a compound that is made naturally in the body and plays an important role in normal bodily function. The full name is S-adenosylmethionine but it is commonly referred to as SAM-e or SAMe.
SAM-e is formed from the essential amino acid methionine and adenosine triphosphate and is found in every living cell in the body. SAM-e, as it is within the cell, is the body's most important antioxidant but antioxidants are chemicals (natural and manmade) that can prevent or slow down cell damage.
There are no food sources of SAM-e but it can be given as a supplement. SAM-e has been used as human dietary supplement since 1999 in the US and for longer in many countries in Europe. SAM-e is used to treat various conditions in humans, e.g. depression, anxiety, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), lower back pain, tendonitis, liver disease, dementia, and to slow down the aging process.
In recent years, SAM-e has been used for pets as well, and then mainly as liver supplement for dogs and cats. However, as with humans SAM-e can benefit pets in more ways.
How SAM-e works for liver health
The liver produces SAM-e from the amino acid methionine. It is converted into glutathione which plays an important role in protecting the liver cells (hepatocytes) from damage from the waste products that the liver removes from the blood stream.
When the liver is damaged, then less SAM-e, and thus less glutathione, is produced. This means even more liver cells become damaged, i.e. vicious cycle has started. SAM-e has been shown to increase the glutathione levels in dogs and cats.
How SAM-e works for cognitive function
SAM-e supplementation has been shown to be safe and effective way to stall or improve mental decline in aging pets. It helps increase dopamine function in the brain, stimulates brain function and works as an antioxidant.
